Garang Guniii~~ Siew Poh Zhua, Gu Sah Korr.. Leliooo.. Dian Si Kiii..

Those growing up in Singapore will no doubt be familiar with the cries of "garang guni" and the honking sounds that accompanies it. The title of this post is actually a statement the "garang guni" man repeats over and over again as he walks through the housing estate to tell the residents he is here to collect used items. (The title roughly translates as "the rag-and-bones man is here to collect old newspaper, old clothes, radio, and television. and yes.. lelio is radio, pronounced with a touch of local flair.) And just like the "garang guni" man, RSPHI is here to collect any recyclable, unwanted stuffs from the residents. Difference is that we're not going to shout like the traditional recycling material collectors.

Throughout the years, "garang guni" has slowly become an annual event. An ever present in the RSPHI calendar, it is a programme to help the Farrago and Kallang centres raise funds to run their annual events, HI-Singapore (HI-TEA for this year) and SPARKZ respectively. But that is not to say that the Clementi centre is not involved. Events by RSPHI run by any one centre is always supported by, and includes active participation from, other centres. And hence, this also serves as a great bonding opportunity for the three centres to come together.

This year, our club ventures into old estates Toa Payoh and Bishan. Below are some photos. Enjoy!!

The team found time to crowd around MacDonald's for a sumptuous meal. Clockwise from bottom left: Kek, Qipei (Farrago), Siew Yin, Xin Yi, Liqin, Wai Yen (Kallang), Yew Meng (Farrago), Steven (Farrago), Christine (Farrago), Zhicheng

A rare find: a mini-golf set. The team decides to goof (golf) around and train to be the next Tiger Woods.

Vague interest shown by Xin Yi. Hidden behind her in the pic is......[insert name]

The guys doing their best impersonation of the EPL. The girls engrossed in the little chats, refused to be amused.

Now...that's a lot of people. The whole "garang guni" team gathers for a final shot before we part for the day.

Will you be there again next year? =)
