Garang Guniii~~ Siew Poh Zhua, Gu Sah Korr.. Leliooo.. Dian Si Kiii..
Those growing up in Singapore will no doubt be familiar with the cries of "garang guni" and the honking sounds that accompanies it. The title of this post is actually a statement the "garang guni" man repeats over and over again as he walks through the housing estate to tell the residents he is here to collect used items. (The title roughly translates as "the rag-and-bones man is here to collect old newspaper, old clothes, radio, and television. and yes.. lelio is radio, pronounced with a touch of local flair.) And just like the "garang guni" man, RSPHI is here to collect any recyclable, unwanted stuffs from the residents. Difference is that we're not going to shout like the traditional recycling material collectors.Throughout the years, "garang guni" has slowly become an annual event. An ever present in the RSPHI calendar, it is a programme to help the Farrago and Kallang centres raise funds to run their annual events, HI-Singapore (HI-TEA for this year) and SPARKZ respectively. But that is not to say that the Clementi centre is not involved. Events by RSPHI run by any one centre is always supported by, and includes active participation from, other centres. And hence, this also serves as a great bonding opportunity for the three centres to come together.
This year, our club ventures into old estates Toa Payoh and Bishan. Below are some photos. Enjoy!!
The team found time to crowd around MacDonald's for a sumptuous meal. Clockwise from bottom left: Kek, Qipei (Farrago), Siew Yin, Xin Yi, Liqin, Wai Yen (Kallang), Yew Meng (Farrago), Steven (Farrago), Christine (Farrago), Zhicheng
A rare find: a mini-golf set. The team decides to goof (golf) around and train to be the next Tiger Woods.
Vague interest shown by Xin Yi. Hidden behind her in the pic is......[insert name]
The guys doing their best impersonation of the EPL. The girls engrossed in the little chats, refused to be amused.
Now...that's a lot of people. The whole "garang guni" team gathers for a final shot before we part for the day. Will you be there again next year? =)

HI-TEA Dry Run
So Wednesday was wet cycling. Now after a break of one day, we're back in Chinatown for a dry run. Or so it's supposed to be.. turns out it's not very dry.
But here we come anyway, answering the call of help from our Farrago brethens. It's their annual event, and this year they're coming up with a food trail programme. Fun and foods galore!! Need help?? The good souls at Clementi are always ready to provide their service...especially when there's food.
Here we are waiting for the games to start. Even Daniel is here. But well...not that surprising, given that Wenqi is from Farrago (*hehs*). If you're sharp enough, you can see Jingxiu and Qimin sitting right at the back.
So let's follow one group, as they embark on this not very dry run through Chinatown...
The game got going and each group was provided a map and a starting clue. The idea is to make sense of the clue, which will point to a location marked on the map. Go there, play a game, eat something, get a clue, and the whole process repeats itself.
Here's Djaya analysing the map. No doubt he has already worked out the shortest distance between each game station, the work done in the process, and the calories of food we need to get the required energy.
And so with the Laughing Buddha protecting and guiding them, it's not long before they found their way to Statue of the Laughing Buddha (which also doubles up as a donation box)! First station and all smiles =)
From left: Sam, Ching Ting, Peiling (from Farrago), Djaya, and Alice (also from Farrago)
Look what they found! Dogs! Cute dogs!!
But Djaya isn't very happy. The extra effort spent taking photos means 30J of energy, and hence, 90kcal more calories are needed. Sinful!
Djaya churning his brain juice for this spot the differences game. Try spotting the difference in grade points between Djaya's modules. (answer: no difference... everything 5 points! =) )
It's Djaya again. Our 5-pointer and Clementi's pride. He's the star of the moment. Here, he's doing up a jigsaw puzzle.
Here's the completed puzzle.
Djaya isn't pointing at the black car. The group is signing "MAZDA", the brand of the red car, and Djaya happens to be the one signing "z".
It isn't long before the trail leads them back to the ending point at Chinatown station. But if you think that's the end of the adventure, be in for a rude shock..
Back at Chinatown station, Farragoian Yew Meng is planning a nasty surprise for everyone. Well you see...one of the food station happens to be a Korean supermart. Fascinated by the shop, Yew Meng combed through every shelf looking for anything interesting or exotic. And this is what he found:
Silk worms! Canned silk worms. In fact, canned soya silk worms!! Thrilled from his new discovery, Yew Meng goes around sharing his joy....and the food...if you call that food...
Sam looks quite happy and obliging to gobble down the worm. Behind, Yanting (Farrago) looks on with disgust.
Priscilla is next to try. A very adventurous and courageous gal, she's always willing to try new things. But she wasn't very prepared mentally for what goes into her mouth...so it ended up like this:
A pretty unglam picture of her! Haha.. it's not often you get to see an unglam Pris, so this is a nice catch... oops... ;-)
Kok Ping enjoys being served... I'm not sure if he likes the worm though...
But he looks very much lost...
Xinyi is next in line..and by the time the stuff went into her mouth, it's too late to regret..
But with a little help swallowing the monster, she managed to pull through unscathed
Well...thankfully the Silk Worm Saga ended, and it's time for the debrief.
Spotted in this pic are: Sam, Sweeling (partly hidden by Zhicheng), Zhicheng, Djaya, Hengky, Sin Hang, Ching Ting, Kok Ping, Priscilla, and Siew Yin.
A wonderful event it was with some nice foods and great games, although the weather threatened to ruin our day once more. And thanks to Yew Meng for adding a touch of fear factor as well. Kudos to the organising committee and we wish them all the best in having a successful HI-TEA on 17th Feb!!

Bicycle Race!
It's a lazy Wednesday afternoon, And school's starting soon. The sky grew dark, As we dropped by East Coast Park.
"Let's not be so tame!"
Someone exclaimed.
"The gloom can be chased
Away with a little race!"
On our bikes and off we go,Down the road with our sis and bro.Colourful wind caress our faces, saying "hi!",
While we zipped past trees and greens with delight.
Alas, thunders boom
As dark clouds loom.
Titter-a-tatter titter-a-tack..
Raindrops falling on our backs.
But our spirits remain high,
Our passion never dies.
As long as we stay in this family
Called RSPHI Clementi!
It is customary for contestants to take a bow before the race starts. Here, Jingxiu shows us how it is done.
Race "legend" Daniel Sugianto planning his tactics. You could see his mind running. Or rather, cycling.
Vroom vroom~~
Bikers taking the last shot before we set off.
At the starting line.
Kok Ping telling everyone how good he is...blah blah blah blah blah blah
(a load of crap from him as usual...)
Melvin giving the "Melvin Look".
Daniel showing his secret behind his speed. "Water is life. Water is the body's fuel. Drink more water."
Wonderful advice.
Halfway through the race, rain started falling. We stopped by at the Bedok Jetty to enjoy the rain and take a look at the sea.
Sia larh!!.. You would have thought its the Chinese seventh month...
Upclose but not very personal shot of the prettys from Clementi.
The Twin Terrors of the Bedok Jetty is what they call them...
Actually no... it's just Sam and Melvin
Manhunt.
Kek poking her own eyes. One wonders why she does that. Hmmm...
It's one heck of a ride from the bike shop to the end of ECP. Shiok. Let's go again next time.
For now, let's race back. Double shioks.
And charging ahead of the pack at 38.152km/hr is.....Enchen!!
..with the rest closely behind
*dvljef* is what they are signing. Or rather..I can't see what's the sign from this pic
The end in sight!
There's a pain in Kok Ping's arse.
Woohoo~ Finally ended. Drenched in sweat and rain, but a great ride it was.
We huddled together on this cold and wet afternoon and took a great shot together.
